| The
owner of a Hotel was aware of various thefts from his premises
and suspected staff involvement. Surveillance was not an easy
answer as it was considered that more than one person may be
involved.
By
" employing" one of our operatives as a porter Renaissance
was able to secure the confidence of staff and details of
the additional staff benefits soon emerged.
The
"employee" was advised as to all of the rackets
that were being perpetrated against their employers something
which it transpired was accepted throughout and including
management.
Such
scams included; Inviting all family and friends to join the
member of staff for free meals and drinks; Helping yourself
to food from the kitchen and amending stock records to cater
for such shortfalls; Ordering extra goods for staff use whilst
purporting to be for the Hotel. Shortchanging customers and
not entering all cash payments when guests do not ask for
a receipt. Charging extra drinks to intoxicated customers
and benefiting yourself. Stealing from guests rooms, Falsifying
drinks orders to allow for an additional supply of stock for
the benefit of the staff.
The list was endless.
Upon
receiving details of these scams the Hotel owner who was otherwise
an extremely trusting and easy going employer broke down in
tears. Several staff were sacked but due to the extent of
the problem others needed to be put on a warning or their
would have been no staff left!
